Now officially entering Week 3... of salvaging my room into something that's more livable. It's been quite....interesting. Totally on lack of sleep now in an uncomfortable guest room with a crick neck, my parents are tripping over all my stuff scattered into the hallways. Not to mention, I threw out my back, and Sandy's forbade me from lifting anything for a while. And on top of that, I'm still bitter that I didn't get that Ikea Poang chair for free even though Frank, James and I bloody woke up at 3am for the damn lineup. Apparently, ppl lined up since 8pm the day before. Psycho cheapass bastards. Now there are officially at least 400 people in Toronto who are crazier than us. Though none of them prolly will be willing to drive all the way from Ikea North York to Ikea Burlington and back.

So after I threw out my back and screwed up with priming the walls, I was like, I can't do this anymore without help. Sent out a SOS, and luckily Lyds (all-purpose handigirl), Kitty (artist), Tina (trading spaces expert) and Hanna (trading spaces expert #2) came over on Tuesday to help me clear out stuff in my room. That team of 4 girls managed to do more work in the span of one hour than I had over the past two weeks! I don't know where anything is anymore, but at least I could finally get started painting my room. James finally woke up after the girls cleared up my room and helped me take apart my bed. All other guys were either busy or just self-centered lazy-ass bastards who, even though they have nothing else to do, refused to help, so I'm still stuck with my old desk in the middle of my room since James can't possibly lift it all by himself. At least that's the only thing left in my room. Damn, Ricky, why did you have to go to HK?!

Anyway, yesterday was pretty much spent grumbling about the damn Ikea chair and sweating off a few pounds with the wallpaper steamer heating up the room. Yes, my baby wallpaper is finally coming off - 18 years too late, though some say 22 years too late - and it took James and I all day to steam the damn thing off, though it was totally worth it in the end. My walls look beautiful, and all of a sudden my room echos and it feels so much bigger! Sooo happy about that! Watched a bit of the Stones concert on TV during a break - we were so glad we didn't go. With all the complaints about lack of water and the smelly porta-potties, I'd much rather watch the concert in the comfort of my own air-conditioned, drink-abundant, washroom-accessible living room - though I don't even really want to watch the concert at all. After seeing the SARS 1 Concert at SkyDome, to me, there was a helluva lot better talent at that than at the Downsview concert. No big deal. =)

My comp's been disconnected since it's taken out of my room, so sorry Dawn, haven't been able to work on your stuff. I have to resort to waking up at 8am to check my email and blog on my dad's computer before he has to use it. Can't even sort through my email properly now without Outlook - I've got, at this moment, 342 unread emails. 341 of which are most probably spam. Marketing bastards, spammers deserve to be locked away in a computer-less environment for the rest of their lives for making me so miserable. So apologies to anyone who's expecting an email from me - you won't be getting one for a while. Blame the "Hot Stock Tip", "Low Interest Rates", "Penis Enlarger", and "Human Growth Hormone" crap.

Anyway, back to work...and time to eat breakfast.

Bloody friggin' @%$&#W$%&....stupid ROSI. I hate U of T. I hate 4th year students who hog up everything. I hate getting shut out of classes I'm supposed to take. I hate this stupid system.

Why can't UT, in all its infinite wisdom as Canada's greatest school and its couple-billion dollars as Canada's richest school, just get more servers to handle the load? Increase the bandwidth? Bloody, we're paying enough already as is, and now they want to screw us over by not letting us take our courses. UT can kiss my ass.

I hate this morning.

It took me all freaking day....but I got it done. Instead of running the 50 errands that I should've been doing, I took all day looking for a free audio recording program - one that i can use to record an internet music stream. After trying out like 15 programs that turned out to be either shareware, didn't record realplayer format, or wasn't for windows xp, I finally found this one program that was perfect for my needs. Problem was, it costs US$24.95. AND I needed an earlier version, the current version was too up-to-date. Anyway, long story short, took me a while but finally got a program that was able to do my bidding. You have absolutely no idea how happy I was that I was finally able to record a song off the net - Ex-Bestfriend by Toronto's own Brett Russell. I was literally losing my mind in frustration that it took me that long just to do such a simple task. Anyway, he's got some pretty good stuff, but I couldn't find him anywhere - not at HMV, not on the net - until I accidentally stumbled upon his profile page today. Don't be fooled by Ex-Bestfriend, because he does a lot of gospel stuff apparently.

I also managed to find a cheap, cheesy computer version of Risk - Conquest. Now, I've got games like Warcraft 3, Frozen Throne, GTA Vice City, Freelancer, The Sims, etc etc. All great, best-selling games. Yet this one little 617kb download, complete with an ugly map and a game engine even I in my high school days could've made, kept me fascinated for half the day as I strived to conquer the world over and over, experimenting with different strategies and dealing with devastating luck. Man, I never should've played Risk on Saturday. Now I'm freakin' addicted.

Song of the Moment: What else? Brett Russell's Ex-Bestfriend.

It really sucks how fast time flies sometimes...only seemed like yesterday that I went to Ikea with Ricky and bought a shelf...kept thinking to myself, he's not leaving til the 13th, no biggie, there's plenty of time so he can come over and help me start the room remodelling....and now the 13th's here, and I just realized, damn, he's leaving already, and I didn't even get a chance to hang out with him as much as Jo and I both wanted to. He'll only be gone a month, but then Jo's travelling to and from Florida all the time, and by the time he comes back, I'll be doped up so hard on painkillers that not only will I find CSI hilarious again, but I'll probably hurt myself from laughing so hard. Sigh...anyway dude, remember to bring me back something. =)

As a going-away thing for him, Jo and I took him to go see Pirates of the Caribbean after arguing over what movie to see like we always end up doing - so we all compromise and watch a movie that none of us really want to go see. But man, it was a GREAT movie, it totally blew us away cuz none of us had any expectations from it, and the previews gave away NOTHING. Endless plot twists kept it from being the stale, overused hero plotlines, and Johnny Depp was really amazing in his role as the half-drunk pirate. Orlando Bloom (man he's got a cool name...though I probably won't name my kid that....maybe Aidan) did pretty good as the swashbuckling hero, and of course it certainly didn't hurt that Kiera Knightly (now that's a cool name too...if it's a girl, maybe i'll name my kid Kiera) was pretty hot, though bares striking resemblance to both Natalie Portman and Wynona Ryder. Even though the critics deadpanned the movie, and the music left a little to be desired, it's one that I'd definitely go buy the DVD after seeing it in the theatres. If you haven't seen it yet, go see it. Trust me, you won't regret it - everybody who's asked me about it after and seen it have told me they're glad I told them to go. =)

Just before that, had a CC small group reunion at Abe's place...ended up playing Classic Risk. Now, I hadn't played in like...12 years, but man, I totally got hooked to the game...I don't think I was old enough to truly appreciate the game when I first played it. Through sheer ruthlessness and utter disdain for everyone else's armies, I marched from Australia to conquer both North America and South America while Kendrick tried diplomacy with just about everyone and Abe was trying to give me bad advice. Yet through the ashes, I reigned supreme when the game ended early since I had to leave. This little bit is for Yee-Lee, who during the game, made the foolish mistake of saying, "oh, I don't want to put my armies there. I want to crush Justin." WHO CRUSHED WHO YEE-LEE?! =)

Rain, rain, go away...and don't come back another day...I absolutely HATE rain. If it's raining, you know chances are, I'm gonna be in a bad mood, or just in a not-very-accomodating mood. The splashing of puddles, the wet clothes, the bothersome umbrellas that always break down - I just can't stand rain. And to top it off today, had to bring the Mercedes in to get the A/C fixed AGAIN, even after paying $1300 for a brand-spanking new compressor, and because they couldn't find the source of the problem before closing time, I couldn't get the car back today. So I had to walk all around downtown, soaked without an umbrella, carrying a heavy gym bag, and ready to tear into whoever made a crack about my bad day. Luckily nobody dared to. =)

I just really, really, REALLY hate the rain.

And my sunburnt scalp decided to peel today. I felt like I had dandruff...thank goodness it's impossible to have dandruff with such a shaved head. But it's really, really annoying....maybe next time I'll learn my lesson and put sunscreen on my head when I have no hair.

Score one for the little guy! So Tung Che-Hwa, Hong Kong's Chief Executive, backed up and decided to temporarily scrap Article 23, after that massive protest convinced several legislature members to side with the public and change their votes from for the Article to against. Had the stupid Chief Executive done his homework, he would've known it wasn't a good idea to begin with. Now, he had to put the new subversion laws aside because had he gone ahead with the legislative vote, it would've lost and he would've been publicly embarassed, not to mention the backlash among the public. But putting it aside also ruins his career in China's eyes, as they had handpicked him from the start to be the CE.

Yay! It's still safe to go to Hong Kong....for now =)

I need to slow down...been doing too much lately. I was reading this book at Chapters today, something about patience, and in it was this little tidbit about what Taoists call wu wei, or doing nothing to find inner peace or something like that. Now I don't believe in new age stuff, but I do value my "me" time these days more than ever, because I don't get the chance to do have them much anymore, and I'm getting tired fast.

On Thursday, rushed downtown to pickup the car from the repair shop, tried to squeeze in a haircut between picking it up and going to physio...didn't make it. So settled on getting to physio 5 minutes early and surprising the entire clinic by my sudden punctuality. Finished physio, did a quick workout, then rushed to the orientation planning meeting which I ended up being half an hour late for. Got to CCF after, had a very unpleasant incident (really tested my ability of being the bigger man and letting things go), and went to dinner at Kowloon. Finally, after consulting with Dan, just decided to just screw everything and shave my head bald instead of getting a proper haircut after dinner - it'd be easier to maintain (no gel! no washing the gel out! no putting on gel in the morning!), and cheaper too, since he'd be doing it for me. Got my head shaved, and then proceeded to chase after his pet hamster who decided to squeeze out of its cage and play hide-and-go-seek. We never did find it. Maybe it was from all the torture that we did to it....heh.

Friday, lunch with mom and grandpa, doctor's appointment, a whole bunch of odds-and-ends errands, and rush down to have dinner with Renee at YYZ for Summerlicious. Somehow even though the restaurant was at Adelaide & Peter, I parked at Adelaide & University and very stupidly proceeded to walk in the opposite direction towards Yonge. Anyway, finally got there, had a really nice dinner, starting with potato & pea soup with pear, avocado, and proscuitto garnish, an absolutely mouth-watering pan-seared salmon that was just prepared perfectly - cooked on the outside and slightly pink on the inside - with shrimp and corn risotto cake (mmm...), and for dessert, ice cream with a banana-strudel type concoction. The service was excellent, the ambience really funky (albeit not very warm, comforting style one) and the jazz playing in the background was the cherry on top. I'm not nearly the restaurant connoisseur/critic that Renee and Cindy are, but I'd give it probably 4 out of 5 stars, though it's so much easier to go when a dinner for two costs $80 instead of the usual $200. At $200, there better be a damn good reason for me to go. =)

Afterwards, we walked along the Harbourfront, only to discover that Harbourfront Centre was having a Blues festival, part of their summer lineup of events. They had a lot of interesting booths up with people hawking their unique wares, and a huge stage where Dawn Tyler Watson & Corey Diabo were performing - they were pretty good. It was especially nice for me because I haven't taken the time to just take a walk with someone in a long, long time...and to have great weather and a perfect summer breeze make it so much nicer. If anything, this was the one evening where I felt like it wasn't chaotic....up until the moment we decided to go watch T3. (sorry Jo...hey just remember...powerpuff girls!) Now I wasn't really enthused about watching it, because it's been so long since T2 that the anticipation for it for me just wasn't there. We weren't sure if we were willing to pay Friday night prices for the movie. Renee and I didn't get the chance to see anything else since it was a) pretty late already and b) Bruce Almighty, which we wanted to see, was only playing in the north theatres. But we were both pleasantly surprised, it was a pretty good movie. She kept gushing about how good ol' Arnie Schwarz looks even though he's like a gadzillion years old. =)

Saturday, worked extensively on my site and did a bit of studying before Denise convinced me to go to the exhibition game between Sanctuary & Recon. I can't believe Recon actually lost to the old fogies. Maybe that's proof of how badly they need this injured superstar out on the field =) It drives me nuts to see them out there, there's nothing more I'd love to do than to go all-out with a bat and a glove, but alas, I'm reduced to running practice drills and some coaching. They had practice after which I stayed for to help James get back into the swing of things since he's come back, then went to Parkway to cheer on the Junior team, Salvation. Ken Foo vs. Peter Foo - who couldn't resist that matchup? But in the end, the older Foo's team won.

Was driving up Leslie to Finch on our way to dinner at Chiu Chow Koon afterwards when Vida pulled up beside me at a traffic light.
Me: "Wanna race up to Finch?"
Vida: "What?"
Me: "Wanna..."
....before I could finish that sentence, she was already zooming off in her Previa. Jon just sat in the passenger seat laughing at me. I was like, "What the...grrr....she's all mine....." and proceeded to floor my Mercedes. Took me a good 5 seconds that seemed like forever before I finally caught up to her, and by then she had already cut me off trying to block my lane, so I switched over and proceeded to blow her away at 140kph, like I should've been doing in the first place....because hey - it's a freakin' Merc against a minivan! She couldn't go any faster, she was prolly going at about 110 clicks when she topped out and her pedal was already all the way down....still, gotta give a lot of respect to her driving abilities. Was VERY, very, surprised that not only was she willing to race, but she actually had me a little worried with her headstart. Most girls wouldn't even dare share the road with me if I intended to go 80 over the limit. =)

All the girls insisted on dessert at Liu's 1 afterwards, where they proceeded to convince me to deviate from my Mango Tapioca and instead try the Mango Shaved Ice. Big mistake. Not only did I end up with brain freeze, but it wasn't even all THAT good even though Rani kept insisting that, having tried both, the shaved ice was better than the tapioca.

Today (geez, this is a friggin' long post), went to church, then went to Chapters to do some reading while killing time between service and lunch with Chris Ko and his family. Chris is the nicest guy ever, he's pretty much my godbro....I remember when he used to come out from boarding school during the weekends that Eric and I would fight over whose house he'd end up staying at....and cuz my parents are his guardians, I usually won. =) I also remember he's the reason why I don't like horror movies - he made me watch Ghostbusters with him, completely unprepared for a movie with ghosts. =(

After lunch, went to the Recon game, only to watch in horror as the defence completely fell apart in the early going and put the team in a hole they just couldn't recover from. Injuries certainly didn't help. But the team showed its toughness by playing through the pain. Speaking of pain, my newly shaven head got sunburnt. At least I don't look like a monk anymore....

Denise and Jamie twisted my arm and made me go Karaoke with them and Gabe, Jas, Brian and Tammy...even though my throat was a little sore and I was really in no mood to go. But after a while, I got into it, but with being tired and the sore throat, I sounded like a cow. =) Can't argue with the price tho, $8.50 for 3.5 hours.

Came home, had dinner, watched Wild Wild West and Independence Day (what's up with all the Will Smith movies tonight) and now here I am blogging for the past 40 minutes. That's the update for the past 4 days.

The Olympics are coming back to Canada! Better start making plans to go to Vancouver come 2010...good thing I've got plenty of friends there =)

Interesting email I got from Uncle Hubert...(I can't read any of it, I had to get Eric to translate for me)

Yesterday in HK there was a big-ass protest, I'm told there were some 500,000 people (I even had some relatives there), over a law being introduced by the government as "Article 23" - which basically bans all publicly negative statements that are directed towards the government. Damn communists. I really hope they wake up and realize that they're just signing Hong Kong's economic and sociological deathbed if they go through with it. So much for the "No changes to Hong Kong for 50 years" agreement crap that the mainland made to England during the 1997 handover negotiations. If HK becomes totally communist, not only would it piss me off, but I'd probably never go back to HK ever again....so I hope the Chinese government will just stop being so flippin' dumbass and embrace the future of the world.

Unböring...I chose Ikea's new advertising campaign slogan as the codename to my new web design because I was really unsatisfied with my past 3 designs and I felt like I needed to go back to my roots if I wanted to hit a home run - blending Ikea's simplicity yet with the Unböring of their new image. So presto! I had an epiphany and here we are.

It's the first time since the retiring of my award-winning site (for those of you who don't remember or don't know...this site was crowned the 2001 Canadian Undergraduate Web Site of the Year...) (no Jon, I won't let it go, because I retired as the champ, so I get to brag all I want!)....anyway, so yeah, I've had 3 versions of jcool.com since its official retirement back in October 2002, and each time I've felt like the site didn't quite materialize to the vision I had for it - something was missing, and that something was the satisfaction of sitting back, looking at it, and saying "It is good." But fourth time's a charm, I'm finally happy with it. For now. Let's see how long it lasts this time, and of course, I'm always open to critique. Just ICQ/MSN me about your thoughts.

The major site structure is done, but the content in each page isn't, with the exception of the Gallery, located in Ibiza. I find it fitting that I officially christen the latest instalment of jcool.com on Canada Day - it's my gift to Canada. =)
